Elizabeth Ann (Kloosterman) Parks- Class of 1986
passed away suddenly, August 7, 2024. Liz was born Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 1968, at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI, and is surived by her husband Joel of 33 years. Freida was served Cornish Game hen after Liz was born instead of turkey, a tradition the family still carries on. Carl was stationed overseas at the time of Liz's arrival and got the news that his daughter was born "yesterday." Korea is a day ahead of the United States, so he didn't know exactly what day Liz was born on. Liz also leaves 3 sons, Jeremiah (Jaye Yxng), James, and Joel Jr, grandson Koa Mileo, sisters Kathleen (Chad) Van Dyk, and Jennifer (Eric) Schmierer, her father Carl Kloosterman, nieces Lexi (Jake) Disselkoen and Tess Van Dyk, and Eden and Aria Schmierer, and grand niece Olivia Disselkoen. Liz was preceded in death by her mother, Freida Bruyshaard
(Kloosterman). Liz graduated from Rehoboth Christian HS, where she loved to play the piano, the trombone, and sing. She also went to the NM high school State track meet and medaled in shot put and discus. Liz still has the Rehoboth HS record for the longest girl's discus throw. She graduated from New Mexico State University with her BS in Special Education, where she met her husband Joel. After teaching Special Ed for a few years in the Gallup area, they relocated to Seattle, Washington, to help care for Joel's elderly grandparents. Liz went on to earn her Masters of Education from the University of Washington. Liz was a dedicated special education teacher for over 30 years, and she loved her students dearly. Liz always fought hard for the "underdog" and had a heart full of compassion for others. Lizzy's Light and Joy were her sons and her husband. Two of the many things that Liz will be
remembered for her incredible patience and her sharp wit. Liz's memorial service will be announced soon.
