Rosalyn Ghysels Nursing Scholarship

About the Donor:

Rosalyn Ghysels received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Johns Hopkins University and her Master of Science in Nursing from Columbia University. Rosie's career in nursing education began at the Blodgett School of Nursing in the early 1950's. In 1960, she joined the faculty at Grand Rapids Junior College (now GRCC) as Director of the Practical Nursing program. Over the next 30 years, she continued to educate nurses for the West Michigan community including initiating and developing GRCC's Associate Degree Nursing Program. During that time, she also volunteered through Project Hope to coordinate the development of schools of nursing in the underserved areas of Laredo and El Paso, TX. In retirement, Rosie was an active volunteer with the American Red Cross, helping with many Red Cross programs in the West Michigan area and also responding to crises in Texas and the Caribbean area.  Rosie developed a desire to support Rehoboth graduates after multiple visits to the area.  She saw a need in the community for more nurses and a difficulty in getting financial aid to enable a student to commit to a career in the health sciences and also stay in their community to practice.

Paul & Mary Ellen Richards Memorial Education Scholarship

About the Donors:

Paul and Mary Ellen Richards were children of the Great Depression, raised in families with little means. Any schooling after high school for them, looked impossible. Then in both cases, a caring adult in their schools was instrumental in each receiving a scholarship. Both went on to school with Paul graduating from a business program and Mary attaining her math education degree. Their career and personal successes later in life were directly impacted by this and by their deep faith in Jesus.

Their education not only changed them as public servants and at church, it also changed things in their home. Their children grew up in the church and with the knowledge that they would be going to college. Both of their children chose to pursue education as a major and spent their careers in the educational field. Two of their grandchildren are also teachers.

The challenge to the recipients of this scholarship is to keep it going...pass on God’s love, pass on educating others and preparing them to serve others. Pass it on…

About the Scholarship:
  • Available to Rehoboth Christian School Alumni currently in their junior or senior year in an education program
  • A scholarship of up to $500 per school year will be awarded by the scholarship committee based on financial need, academic achievement, motivation, and character.
  • Preference will be given to a student demonstrating a commitment to return to Rehoboth or the surrounding reservation communities.
