New High School Building Project
The dust is settling for a few weeks on the construction site for the new Rehoboth High
School. The ground was broken on May 8 by 24 Rehoboth student ambassadors, two from each grade, all equipped with a golden shovel to begin our long awaited project! We were blessed to have over 250 guests from our local community - including families, pastors, alumni, board members and a special visit from Navajo Nation Vice President, Jonathan Nez. We were also honored to have many friends who traveled from out of town to be a part of the celebration.
As with so much in Rehoboth’s 114 year history, the ceremony began and ended with prayer - prayers of gratitude and thanksgiving, petitions for safety and guidance as we build upon the foundation, and finally prayers of dedication and blessing by local pastor Rev. Bobby Boyd upon our children and community as we commit this new work to God’s glory. Students led us in singing “Great is Thy Faithfulness”. A time of fellowship followed with a delicious lunch provided by parent owned Camille’s Sidewalk Cafe. Within one day of our ceremonial groundbreaking, heavy equipment operated by Rehoboth volunteers began the process of digging the pit over 9 feet deep so that a new dirt foundation could be hauled in and compacted. Our volunteers enjoyed the typical New Mexico May weather filled with snow, rain, hail, wind, and a bit of sunshine.
Just two weeks later, our site pad is now ready for construction to begin. We are excited to have LAM Rockford Construction Company working along with AMDG Architects to encourage subcontractors and suppliers to be partners in this high school project. As the construction timeline moves forward, we anticipate the concrete foundation being installed later in August. Throughout the next school year construction will continue with completion estimated for mid-summer of 2018.
Thank you again for all of your prayers, and for your financial gifts to make this new school building a reality! If you are interested in seeing the high school construction, we would love to have you visit our campus anytime. If you can’t make it out to Rehoboth, please head to our website and see the construction site on our webcam (www.rcsnm.org/about/webcam.cfm).
Special Thanks to Our Volunteers and local business who helped with the dirt work.
