A Day in the Life of Rehoboth

The sun blinks brightly at Rehoboth, signaling that morning has arrived. Nine months out of the year, students also blink as they head to the high school.

By 8 a.m. every weekday morning, students fill the hallways. At 8:14, when the tardy bell rings, the hallways magically empty in less than two seconds. Another day has started.

About one-hundred-seventy students attend Rehoboth Christian High School. Each one brings a unique story to the vivid school mosaic. The diverse backgrounds certainly make for a stimulating environment—Navajo, Zuni, Ethiopian, Hispanic, Anglo, Asian, and more.

When you arrive at the front doors of the high school, you can’t help but notice the surrounding colors. The deep blue sky contrasts nicely with the reds, oranges and browns of the sandstone formations. These complex rock structures intrigue all who see them, as do the wispy clouds drifting in the breeze. These colors speak of the obvious diversity of the area. They blend as beautifully as do the students sitting in their classrooms.

Upon pulling open the double glass doors and walking inside, you see the friendly front office staff calmly working. Someone always seems to smile your way. You walk down the hallway, past green lockers, and peek into the new Science lab. Students glance at you curiously, and then focus back on the teacher. It’s amazing how wakeful most of these students become after 8:14. They know they’re here for a purpose. More students from Rehoboth go on to college than anywhere else in the area.

The faculty commits themselves to this place. As teachers work hard to provide students with a quality education, the students do their best to make class time productive and enjoyable. Their curiosity and unique insights contribute greatly to the school. Perhaps it’s because so many of them take advantage of the opportunities offered to them.

Rehoboth provides a fully equipped ropes course for its students, along with various electives to help develop and challenge student interests. Students learn to work well together through these activities. They can always be seen standing in a tight circle, holding hands and praying together after sports games and other events.

Because the school is small, much is possible here. Students routinely take field trips to enhance learning. Every year, a week is dedicated to student off-campus trips. Last year, students traveled to Mexico, New York City, and other locations to learn. The choir has even traveled to Germany to perform.

The bell rings at 3:20 and students excitedly file from the classrooms. They never seem to be in a hurry to head home. Students can be spotted chatting with teachers, walking the halls, working in the computer lab, drawing in the art room, or heading to the sport of the season. Whether it is volleyball, soccer, cross-country, basketball, track, or softball, most students participate. With the new and beautiful athletic complex opening this year, that number may well rise even more.

As the sun continues to shine on Rehoboth, the students continue to thrive. The students here find a positive outlet for their diverse talents, whatever their motivation or passion. God has blessed this place, and it has become an inspiration to many.
