Faith

I did not grow up in a Christian home. I did go to church every other Sunday but knowing who God was and about the Christian faith was difficult for me to understand. The few times I did attend church I learned more about God. I do believe God is a personal God, whom I can talk to and build a relationship with. I also believe in the word of the Bible. The Bible tells us that God's son Jesus came down to this earth to teach us about His Father. I believe Jesus died on the cross for our sins and through him we are able to know God.

Being at Rehoboth I am able to learn and grow in my faith. Praying and praising God is one way I do grow in my faith. I believe God has a plan for my life and he will guide me through that plan. But I am also called to spread and teach what I know to those who may not know God. Building a relationship with God is important to me as I grow in my faith. The following is a paper I wrote for my Worldviews ans Christian Life class, it tells more about my belief and my faith

Every person has their own worldview. There are hundreds of worldviews and religions today in this world. Our worldview has a big impact on our lives. It shapes who we are and become, daily decisions we make, and the daily practices. I grew up a Christian believing in God. I believe his word in the Bible and use his word as a guideline in my life. I also answer questions that people may have about worldviews. Some of these questions being what is the importance of human beings?, How do you know right and wrong?, and what happens at death? I am able to answer those three questions through my worldview. My worldview of believing in God is one of many various different worldviews today.

Worldviews shapes the daily decisions but also can answer three questions of worldviews. My worldview of God is that He is a higher power then humans. He created this earth for His children and sent his son Jesus to die for our sins. The world is full or corruption, hate, and dishonesty but people can change from that and find repentance through Jesus. The importance of human beings is to do the duties of God. God has a plan for every one of his children. It is the choice of that person to fulfill God's work or to deny Him. God says to have a relationship with him. Being a child of God is like obeying your parents. He wants you to go out and preach His word. People of the world need to know there is someone to trust and there will be no more suffering. There is a choice to live a good life or a bad life. Knowing the difference between what is right and wrong can help you understand more of my worldview. God is not physically here to tell a person whether they are doing something right or wrong. Therefore the Bible, which has God's word in it, gives us a guideline of right and wrong. Those guidelines are in the form of the Ten Commandments. God sent us the Ten Commandments to tell is what he expects from his children. Living by these guidelines can determine what happens to you at death. The Bible also tells us of a heaven and a hell. If you live a good life in God's eyes, by giving your heart to Jesus and live by his expectations, you can go to heaven. However, by denying God and not living according to his expectations can send you to hell. Your life on earth is over but that life determines where your soul will be after death. Believing in the Bible as God's word gives me a sense of safety and courage to believe in Him and I know I will be safe, not only in this life but in life after death.

This worldview of God and his expectations shapes my decisions and daily interactions. Friendship and other non romantic relationships are important to me. But how do you treat others and what are my expectations from others. The Bible also tells us how to treat one another. It states to love your neighbor, which could also mean friends. Be trustworthy, respectful, but also not to forget your duty as a child of God to spread His work. I treat friends this way and I do expect to have the same kind of respect from them. Along with relationships comes a romantic dating relationship. The Bible also has guidelines for relationships of the opposite sex. We were created with physical need. But our body is a temple of God and by respecting that temple of God and by respecting that temple means to set guidelines of wrong and right the two. The broadest example would be sex. Sex outside of marriage is disrespecting and destroying what God has given you. Therefore communication in a relationship is good to set those guidelines. Besides relationships, extra curricular activities such as basketball, also shapes me from my worldview. Being able to play basketball is a gift from God and acknowledging that is important. I believe he gave me the strength and ability for a reason, to help me learn and grow closer to him through basketball. Knowing God's word and the expectations help me with decisions but also shapes the person I am.

Believing in God and what his word says in the Bible is how my life is shaped but also how I make decisions in everyday life, whether it is friendships, dating relationships, or daily activities. I know what is wrong and right through the Bible, the importance I have as a child of God, and also what I can expect to happen at death. I can also compare my worldview to others. They can be similar or different. My belief in God shapes who I am and will become in the future, but also the decisions I will make along the way.
