All through my high school career I have always been in sports. I could never go a year without some type of physical exercise. Sports are an outlet for me to get all my stress and frustration out when I've had a bad day. They are also there to push myself harder and achieve my season goals. Cross Country, Basketball, and Softball are the sports I played here at Rehoboth.
Basketball- this is my favorite sport and major outlet. It helped me get through some of the worst times in my life. Everytime I stepped onto a court or picked up a basketball, all my worries went away. It was just me and the goal and thats the way I liked it. But as you know basketball is a team sport so I had to learn how to communicate and encourage. I'm not going to lie and say that I had a great time these 3 years I played because I didn't. It was hard adjusting to the coaches and my teammates but in the end it helped me be a bigger person. As a sophmore and junior playin with experienced seniors at the varsity level was intimidating. I always felt like I wasn't good enough or that they didn't like me but as time went on I found out they were great leaders and sisters. They helped us to mature and step up to our responsibilities. So when my senior year came around I was ready to lead and have fun. Our season was good but the last part of districts we fell apart. We became too lazy and big headed and pretty soon we saw our goals slip away. I tell this story because its a lesson to all future seniors and it's a story I will never forget. Never take things for granted because they can be taken away in an instant. We ended our season bitterly and we all know why it happened. So if your participating in any sports, give it all you have because once high school is over, you'll never get that chance again.
Cross Country-this sport was a boot camp for me. It helped me get in shape for basketball and just blow steam. When I was having a bad day or just needed to exercise I would come to practice and run 7 or 8 miles. I still don't know how I survived but it was fun. All my memories are from Cross Country and not once do I regret joining. We used to run in the rain, climb hogbacks, go swimming, and push trucks for exercise. Some days we would hate going to practice just because we were lazy and not willing to run a lot miles. So when we would leave for our workout we'd find a good hiding spot and just stay there all practice. We'd talk and joke around with each other and just enjoy the day. This may seem cheap to those who did the workouts but for us, this was a time to bond. Not only was this sport fun but it was a test of perserverance. It taught me to keep pushing myself and working harder towards my goal. This year was rough because we only had a few girls. As seniors we needed to step up and lead and thats exactly what we did. We encouraged the underclassman to run with us and push themselves and in the end, we qualified for state. This sport was the most fulfilling for me because I saw my hard work pay off and my team gave it there all as well. I'm excited to see the mid schoolers come to high school and run because they have a lot of potential. I'm so happy about the way we ended our seaon. I will never forget all the times we had together and how much God blessed us this year.
