Lynx Cap Off Successful Season

The 2008 Cross Country season came to a close on Saturday morning at the State Meet held at RioRanchoHigh School. The boys ran a very strong race, finishing in sixth place (154pts) in the A-AA meet - just eight points out of 4th. They were led in the running by seniors Levi Hale (12th), Warren Todechine (25th), and Jordan Gene (34th). Other finishers included freshmen Mekaile Belone (36th) and Mike Kempkes (47th), sophomore Ben Chee (49th), and junior Cole Damon (94th). Zach Serna, a freshmen, served as the alternate. Congrats to the boys for a great season!

The girls took off where the boys left off. They started out in good position and slowly moved up throughout the race. They finished in fifth place (160 pts in the A-AA meet) and like the boys, eight points out of 4th. They were led by 8th grader Megan Joe who ran a very gutsy race as she crossed the line in 15th place. Seniors Amanda Upshaw and Kelly Chapman ended their high school cross country careers with finishes of 25th and 34th, respectively. First year runner Shelby Martin, also a senior, capped off a great end of the year with a strong finish as well (57th). Other finishers included 8th graders Ashley Carlisle (75th) and Amber Ballenger (91st), and junior Rainee Lee (93rd). Regina Whitehead, a senior, served as the alternate for the girls squad. Congratulations to the lady lynx XC team on a successful season!

A special thanks to the many hours of work from Mr. Andy Stravers and the weekly efforts from Mrs. Autumn Newell. Your time and energy did not go unnoticed! Thank You!

Rehoboth XC Advances to State

10/31/08 - Navajo Pine - The highlight of the day came when the scores were announced and the Rehoboth Girls Cross Country team claimed third place in the district meet - good enough for a trip as a team to state. What made it so special was that the third place finish was just one point ahead of 4th place Gallup Catholic. The Lady Lynx advanced to state by just one point! The girls were paced by Kelly Chapman's 12th place finish. The Rehoboth performance of the day came from Shelby Martin. A first year runner, Shelby ran a gutsy race and put herself in a position to help this team win and that she did! The state meet will be held at Rio Rancho High School on Saturday, Nov. 8. The girls A-AA championship will be run at 11:30a.

The boys had an impressive showing at the district meet as they were paced by Levi Hale's 4th place finish. Running in a tough district that includes a Navajo Pine team that is ranked number one in classes A-AAA - the Rehoboth boys started strong (all six in the lead) and although they didn't hold those positions, they held that mentality for the whole race. Navajo Pine won with 17 points and Rehoboth was second with 53. The state meet will be held at Rio Rancho High School on Saturday, Nov. 8. The boys A-AA championship will be run at 9:30a.

Rehoboth Christian XC Headed for Districts

The 2008 RCS XC team is headed for districts at Navajo Pine on October 31st. They will be running for a spot at the state meet. Both boys and girls placed 7th this past Friday at the Grants XC Invite. Girls will run at 3:45 and boys at 4:30 with a JV race to follow.

Lynx Run well at Rio Rancho!

The Rehoboth Girls XC team was paced by 8th grader Megan Joe at the Rio Rancho Invite on October 18th. The girls placed 12th in the small school race which included teams in New Mexico class 1A-3A. Twenty-one schools had teams run and 31 teams were represented. The Lynx run at Grants on Friday, October 24th before running in the district meet on October 31st at Navajo Pine High School.

The Rehoboth Boys XC team had an impressive showing at the Rio Rancho Invite on Saturday, October 18th. They finished in 17th of 34 schools and did not have their complete top 7 run. They race at Grants on Friday, October 24th before running in the district meet on October 31st at Navajo Pine High School.

Both teams are steadily improving and looking to make some giant steps these next two weeks as they begin to taper. Their hard work and effort is beginning to really show itself.  Go Lynx!

The Rehoboth Lynx Cross Country Squads have been working hard. They are hoping their hard work will pay off at the large pre state meet Rio Rancho is holding and at the district meet. The girls have been led in the running by 8th grader Megan Joe and in leadership by seniors Kelly Chapman and Amanda Upshaw. The boys have been led by senior Levi Hale, returning to the sport after not competing in it last year. The district meet will be held at Navajo Pine High School on October 31st with the results determining who will qualify for the state meet held the following week at Rio Rancho High School.

Rehoboth Christian School has been known for its cross country program. In the late 90's the girls team won three state championships in a row (96,97,98) and the boys team won twice during those years (96 & 98). These teams were led by coach Elmer Yazzie. The addition of soccer into the athletic program has not helped the success of the cross country teams. However, the teams have continued to qualify for the state meet. This past season the boys qualified for the state meet by finishing third in their district. The girls, with just 4 varsity runners were not able to qualify, but Kelly Chapman qualified individually. The team is rebuilding and looking to make it's mark once again in New Mexico's Class 2A.
